TUESDAY’S ELECTION
A number of key issues at the state, county and local levels face voters in Tuesday’s statewide primary:
* Among other things, voters will decide whether to raise the gas tax to fund highway projects, restructure the criminal-justice system and set ethical standards for state officials.
* Locally, Orange County voters will decide whether to restrict all new jail construction to Santa Ana. In Seal Beach, voters will decide whether to give council members a pay raise; in Irvine whether to expand the Yale Avenue footbridges; in Westminster whether to ban the sale of fireworks.
* Several hotly contested races also will be decided, including those in the 58th, 70th and 72nd Assembly districts and in Irvine’s city election.
* Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
