More ‘Rain’ in Forecast for Today
Light rains dampened scattered areas of Southern California on Saturday and weather forecasters predicted cloudy skies and light showers through tonight as fragments of Hurricane Boris sweep across the region.
The heaviest rain fell on San Diego, where .38 of an inch--a record for the date--was recorded and resulted in numerous traffic accidents. Traces of rain were reported in other areas.
The coastal mountain ranges were expected to catch most of the precipitation predicted for today, said Steve Burback, of WeatherData Inc., which provides forecasts to The Times.
The chance of rain in Los Angeles today ranged from 20% to 30%.
“It’ll be on the cool side and kind of wet for doing anything outdoors until the storm ends on Monday,” Burback said. “So it’ll be best to plan things you can do indoors.”
And although every drop counts, experts said the scattered light rains would not have a measurable impact on the region’s four-year drought.
“It’s going to feel muggy because of the tropical moisture in the atmosphere,” said Betty Reo, spokeswoman for the National Weather Service. “But that’s about all you can expect from this little storm system.”
