A Glendale teen-ager was killed and three others seriously injured late Saturday night when their car apparently swerved as it negotiated a curve on Canada Boulevard in Glendale and slammed head-on into an oncoming RTD bus.

Felix Shin, 17, died at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday.

Ben Markmann, 16, was listed in stable condition Sunday afternoon in the hospital’s intensive-care unit. Marcus Carr and Juan Gomez, both 16, were taken to County-USC Medical Center, where they were listed in serious condition. Spokeswoman Adelaide De La Serda said Carr was being treated for chest injuries and Gomez for a head injury. The hospitalized teen-agers also are from Glendale, police said.

None of the seven occupants of the bus were injured, Glendale Police Sgt. Robert Macleod said. He said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

“We do not know at this point why the car crossed over,” Macleod said.

The collision took place about 11:50 p.m. in the 2900 block of Canada Boulevard. Officers said the boys, riding in a Ford Escort, were traveling south on Canada near Willow Drive when their car crossed over the double-yellow lines and collided with the bus, which was headed north. Investigators said Sunday they were not sure which of the boys was driving.

Two of the four boys were thrown from the car on impact. Firefighters had to peel back the car’s roof to remove the other two.

Although toxicological tests had not been completed, police said there was no indication that any of the youths had been using alcohol or drugs.
