Diamond Bar : Sign Moratorium Sought

Share

The City Council and Planning Commission want to crack down on oversized business signs.

In a joint meeting Tuesday, the two bodies unanimously voted to ask the city attorney to draft a 45-day moratorium on tall, free-standing signs until the city tightens its building code.

The temporary ban, proposed by Councilwoman Phyllis Papen, would affect signs taller than six feet or larger than 35 square feet, acting Planning Director Dennis Tarango said.

Councilman John Forbing and Planning Commissioner Grace Lin were absent from the meeting.

“I don’t want to see whirling buckets of chicken on every street corner,” Planning Commissioner Dexter MacBride said before voting to ask the city attorney to draft the moratorium.
