LAGUNA NIGUEL : Redondo Official to Be City Manager

The city manager of Redondo Beach will be hired as the new city manager of Laguna Niguel, Mayor Patricia C. Bates said Wednesday.

The selection of Tim Casey ends a three-month search to find a manager for Orange County’s newest city. The city is still negotiating with Casey over his salary, but he is expected to take the Laguna Niguel post within 60 days, Bates said.

Casey, 39, has been city manager of Redondo Beach for nine years and has also worked for the cities of Ventura and Manhattan Beach.

Laguna Niguel, a new city with a population of 44,000, represents a sharp contrast from the nearly 100-year-old city of Redondo Beach.

The Laguna Niguel city administration has been in a state of flux since at least April, when two interim city officials resigned within days of each other. Both men had been appointed to the temporary posts when the city was incorporated and both were considered candidates for full-time positions.

City officials say they will begin work with Casey immediately in an effort to fill the positions before he starts work.
