Jarvis Holden Elliott, a newspaper editor in Connecticut during the Depression and a real estate broker during the post-World War II housing boom in the San Fernando Valley, has died in Sepulveda. He was 86.

Elliott opened a Studio City real estate office called the Valley Wide Company in 1949, which he operated until 1957. He was president of the San Fernando Valley Board of Realtors in 1951.

Born Sept. 8, 1903, in Brooklyn, N.Y., Elliott served as a Navy officer for seven years during the 1920s. From 1930 to about 1937, he was an editor of the Hartford Courant, his widow said. He later opened a factory in Granby, Conn., that produced parts for the Norden bombsight used by the Army Air Forces during World War II.

In 1943, Elliott moved to California, where he spent 25 years in real estate. During his lifetime, he owned four small planes which he flew for pleasure over most of the United States.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years.

He will be buried at Los Angeles National Cemetery in Westwood. A private service will be held. Pierce Brothers Valhalla in North Hollywood is handling the arrangements.
