British to ‘elp Film Industry: Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher said the British government has decided to inject $8.5 million into the country’s foundering film industry in an effort to turn around seven years of hard times. Thatcher told a meeting of film industry representatives during the weekend that the money will be used in the next three years to help British filmmakers seeking co-productions elsewhere in Europe. Theater attendance soared last year in Britain, but British film production reached its lowest level since 1981. Britain produced only 25 films last year.
