Three construction workers were burned, two critically, in an apparent electrical explosion today while they worked at a battery-manufacturing company in the City of Industry, authorities said.
The men were working atop a scaffolding at G.N.B. Battery Inc., 14500 Nelson St., about 9 a.m. when they accidentally hit a live electrical wire. The resulting explosion ignited the clothes of two workers, Sheriff’s Deputy Kenneth Gilstrap said.
William Laird, 37, of Chino Hills and Carl Blayton, 29, of Bell were airlifted to County-USC Hospital with burns over 50% of their bodies, Gilstrap said. A third worker received minor injuries.
