THE SIDELINES : Ailing Pirates Acquire Jay Tibbs

PITTSBURGH — In an effort to boost an ailing pitching staff, the Pittsburgh Pirates today traded a future consideration for Baltimore Orioles right hander Jay Tibbs.
Tibbs is expected to be in uniform tonight in Pittsburgh when the Pirates play the Philadelphia Phillies. The Pirates said they would make an additional roster move to accommodate the addition of Tibbs.
Tibbs, 28, has started 10 games for Baltimore this year and has a 2-7 record with a 2.68 ERA. This is his third season with the Orioles.
The Pirates traded a player to be named later.
Tibbs has a 38-54 career record in the major leagues with a 4.22 ERA.
