A small grass fire, possibly started by fireworks, burned about 20 acres on Wednesday, fire officials said.

The fire started about 2:30 p.m between Back Bay Drive and Jamboree Road, Newport Beach Fire Department Capt. Ray Pendleton said.

No structures were damaged and there were no injuries, Pendleton said.

Firefighters from Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley helped Newport Beach crews put out the fire in about two hours, he said.

“The fire was of suspicious origin,” Pendleton said. “We believe it might have been started by fireworks.”

He said the investigation is continuing and no suspects have been identified.

Fire officials closed Jamboree Road between Coast Highway and San Joaquin Hills Road for several hours while they extinguished the blaze and mopped up the area.
