Fires Rage on Greek Isle

KARPATHOS, Greece —
Hundreds of Greek firefighters backed by soldiers and water-dropping planes battled forest fires sweeping the tourist island of Karpathos on Wednesday, police said. Police said the blaze was started deliberately. More than 30,000 acres of pine forests have been destroyed so far.
