Nodal Clarification

I write to clarify a statement reported by Allan Parachini in the June 15 article “Choreographer Rejects NEA’s $72,000 Grant.”
Parachini reported that the (Los Angeles) Cultural Affairs Department had rejected a National Endowment for the Arts proposal to participate in a homeless artists program. It was not a formal proposal--it was merely a conversation which I had with Susan Lubowsky, director of the NEA Visual Arts Program. She asked me whether we would be interested in possibly cooperating with them in a homeless artists program and I said yes--but not if we had to make our artists sign something restricting the content of their art.
