Firefighter Injured in Freak Accident
A Los Angeles Fire Department firefighter was slightly injured Saturday when his belt buckle became caught on a vehicle door as a suspect tried to drive away from the scene of an investigation, authorities said.
The firefighter, who suffered minor abrasions in the incident, was dragged more than 100 feet by the suspect, who had been under investigation for allegedly selling illegal fireworks behind a convenience store in Reseda, said Fire Department spokesman Pat Marek.
“It was a standard Fire Department leather belt with a 2-inch-wide metal buckle,” Marek said. “He was dragged about 100 feet until the buckle broke.”
The unidentified suspect is in custody.
