A fire in the ventilation system at a South-Central Los Angeles elementary school Thursday forced at least nine of the school’s administrative staff to be evacuated.

No one was injured in the fire that broke out on the roof of the school office building at 68th Street Elementary School, but there was extensive smoke damage, authorities said.

Damage estimates were not immediately available. Classes at the year-round school were to begin again today.
