CYPRESS : Fighting Cocks, Hens Found; Man Cited
A 50-year-old Cypress man was cited Thursday for possession of fighting cocks after a police officer discovered about 40 individually caged roosters which had been altered for combat, authorities said.
Also discovered in the man’s front and rear yards in the 8300 block of Denni Street were about 20 breeding hens and 100 chicks, Lt. John Schaefer said. Demosthenes Ariosa was issued a misdemeanor citation and ordered to appear in Municipal Court in Westminster on Aug. 15.
Police were called to the Ariosa residence at about 1:15 p.m. after a neighbor complained that Ariosa had been shooting at a dog that was bothering his chickens. No charges were brought in that matter, Schaefer said.
Orange County Animal Control officers seized some of the roosters to be used as evidence against Ariosa, he said.
