A potentially historic sports television weekend is in store with the finals of both Wimbledon and the World Cup.

Martina Navratilova goes for a record ninth women’s singles championship against Zina Garrison at 8 a.m. today on Channels 4, 36 and 39. Sunday’s men’s finals matches Boris Becker and Stefan Edberg for the third consecutive year. Coverage begins at 7 a.m. on the same stations.

A rematch is also in store in the championship game of soccer’s World Cup, with defending champion Argentina facing West Germany Sunday at 10:55 a.m. on TNT and 11 a.m. on KMEX Channel 34. England and Italy meet for third place today at 10:55 a.m. on TNT, 11 a.m. on Channel 34.

The Angels close a disappointing first half of the baseball season with games against the Milwaukee Brewers today (5:30 p.m., Channel 5) and Sunday (11:30 a.m. Channel 5). Other weekend baseball includes the streaking New York Mets taking on the Atlanta Braves today (4 p.m. TBS, WWOR) and Sunday (11 a.m. TBS, WWOR), and the surprising Chicago White Sox playing host to the Baltimore Orioles today at 5 p.m. on WGN. ESPN’s Sunday night game (5 p.m.) features the Oakland A’s and Cleveland Indians.
