Ella Fitzgerald Hospitalized: Jazz legend Ella Fitzgerald has been admitted to a hospital in the Netherlands for treatment of dehydration, a spokeswoman for the North Sea Jazz Festival said on Tuesday. Fitzgerald, 72, was listed in stable condition, but doctors have ordered her to rest for several days and canceled her scheduled appearance tonight at a festival gala in her honor. The “Grand Old Lady” of jazz, who has a weak heart and and pacemaker, became ill Monday. Officials said Fitzgerald would be returning to the United States after her discharge, but would not be able to make scheduled appearances at jazz festivals in Montreux and Antibes. Fitzgerald is still slated to sing at the Hollywood Bowl on the Aug. 22 and at the Orange County Performing Arts Center on Oct. 1.
