Call Him Hurricane Dan: Ready for another strange story about Dan Rather? The CBS anchorman has the international symbol for hurricanes--a circular swirl--sewn into the crook of the elbow of his shirts. Rather groaned when a reporter from Mirabella magazine spotted the logo, apparently concerned that it would be construed as another of his eccentricities. “I shouldn’t have taken off my jacket,” he said. “It’s a talisman. It’s a reminder of what got me here. It’s just for me.” It was Rather’s coverage of Hurricane Carla in 1961, that led to his big career break--moving from a Houston television station to CBS. Rather will be writing about his career in a new book. “It’s not a get-back or a revenge book,” he says. “It will be true tales of television.”
