SEAL BEACH : Victim of Drowning Is Still Unidentified
The Orange County coroner’s office is trying to identity a Latino man who drowned Thursday afternoon while swimming in the local surf.
“We have a John Doe,” said William King, the department’s supervising investigator, on Friday.
King said that two Mexican nationals met the unidentified man earlier in the day at Echo Park in Los Angeles. The three men began drinking and later decided to go to Seal Beach.
The man, identified by the two acquaintances only as Mario, was pulled from the surf at 4:15 p.m., King said.
He was taken to Los Alamitos Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The man was described as being 5 feet, 2 inches tall, weighing 118 pounds, and appearing to be in his early 20s. He had no distinguishing tattoos or scars and may have lived in Los Angeles, King said. He was wearing only black pants and blue underwear.
Anyone with information that might help the coroner’s office identify the man should call (714) 647-7400, King said.
