Ernie Singleton, a former senior vice president at Warner Bros. Records, has been named president of the black music division at MCA Records.

In his new post, Singleton, 40, will oversee a staff of about 40 employees, mostly based at MCA headquarters in Universal City.

The appointment of Singleton, a veteran of the music business who has worked with artists such as Quincy Jones, Prince, Bobby Brown and Patti LaBelle, had been under negotiation since the beginning of this year. He assumes a post last held by Jheryl Busby, now president of Motown Records.
