OXNARD : Car Hits, Kills Girl Who Ran Into Street
A 6-year-old girl was killed when she bolted across the street and into the path of an oncoming car, police said.
Colette Acosta died of chest and abdominal injuries at the scene of the accident about 7 p.m. Monday, said a spokeswoman for the Ventura County coroner’s office.
Acosta apparently was running from the parking lot of a convenience store at 125 W. Hill St. to her house directly across the road when a car driven by David Harkins-Deard, 26, of Ojai ran over her, Oxnard Police Officer Lisa Rajone said.
Acosta ran into the right front fender of the car and fell. The car then rolled over her, Rajone said.
Acosta was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, where she was pronounced dead.
