South Pasadena : Development Fees OKd
Residential and commercial development fees that could raise as much as $150,000 per year for capital improvements were tentatively approved by the City Council on Monday.
City Manager John Bernardi said the fees, which would be paid based on the square footage of new commercial and residential development or expansion of existing facilities, would have virtually unlimited use by the city for capital improvements. Using last year’s new construction as a guideline, he said the city is expected to collect $100,000 to $150,000 from the new fees.
The fees were set at $1.19 per square foot for residential and 78 cents for commercial. That translates into a $2,380 fee for developers building a 2,000-square-foot house or $1,560 for a similarly sized commercial structure.
The council will take a final vote on the fee ordinance Aug. 1.
