STATE : UC Lists Possible Campus Sites

The University of California regents today announced eight finalists in their search for a site for a new campus.

The possible locations for a new university, which have been the focus of intense competition in the San Joaquin Valley, are scattered from Stanislaus County in the north to Tulare County in the south.

The sites are the Mapes Ranch in Stanislaus County, west of Modesto; the Lake Don Pedro area along the line between Stanislaus and Tuolumne counties; the Lake Yosemite area, northeast of Merced; Table Mountain, north of downtown Fresno; the town of Academy, northeast of Fresno; Trimmer Springs, east of Fresno; Watts Valley, northeast of Fresno, and Frazier Valley, north of Porterville.
