Eleven people were injured, including eight children, when a car and a station wagon collided Saturday evening at the busy intersection of Rosecrans Avenue and Figueroa Street in Los Angeles, authorities said.

Two of the adults were critically injured and one was listed in serious condition, city fire officials reported. All of the children were hospitalized but with only minor injuries, Los Angeles City Fire Department spokesman Greg Acevedo said.

Names of the injured were not released.

The crash occurred at 6:45 p.m. as a station wagon traveling southbound on Figueroa Street collided with a car turning west onto Rosecrans Avenue.

Police said at least seven children were traveling in the station wagon, all apparently of preschool age. None appeared to be wearing seatbelts or riding in protective car seats.

Five rescue ambulances and two fire units responded to the crash and victims were rushed to Harbor-UCLA and Martin Luther King Jr./Drew medical centers.
