Shy Tom Scores Victory at Laurel

LAUREL, Md. —
Shy Tom, from the stable of North America’s leading trainer, Wayne Lukas, edged Doc’s Leader by a neck in the $162,950 Baltimore Budweiser Breeders’ Cup at Laurel Race Course Saturday.
Shy Tom rallied from last in a field of five to complete the 1 1/8-mile course in 1:49 3/5 over a muddy track with jockey Mario Pino. Doc’s Leader finished four lengths before Overnight Hero. Flaming Emperor, the 9-10 favorite and 117-pound high weight, was fourth.
