A Paradise Hills woman, 28 years old, was shot and killed early Monday morning at her residence during what police believe was an argument with her boyfriend, a Navy man who was reported absent without leave Monday morning.

The woman’s 5-year-old daughter, who was awakened by the argument and the sound of gunshots, alerted a neighbor after she found her mother’s body and reportedly saw her mother’s boyfriend drive off in a silver military pickup, police Homicide Lt. Dan Berglund said.

Terese Buckley of the 6800 block of Benjamin Holt Road in Southeast San Diego had gunshot wounds in the head and chest, Berglund said. He said police believe a .45-caliber automatic handgun was used.

Anthony Shipman, 25, who was temporarily assigned to the security department at the Coronado Naval Amphibious Base, was taken into custody by police shortly after 1 p.m. Monday and was arrested in connection with the shooting, Berglund said. Shipman was dressed in military fatigues.

Berglund said the young girl ran next door to a neighbor’s house after finding her mother’s body shortly after 7 a.m., dressed in pajamas, lying on the living room floor. The neighbor alerted police.
