BETTING WITH BOB : MAN VS. MICROCHIP
My luck on closing day was typical of my luck during the Hollywood meeting as a whole. I lost $200 Monday when my key exacta horse, Bright And Right, finished second between my other two selections. I finished with $1,021, $623.50 behind SURELOCK’s total of $1,644.50. I sent the computer some congratulatory disk-drive cleaner, and it responded with what I assume is advice to buy a unit of my own: IF YOU CAN’T BEAT ‘EM, MODEM.
Bob’s Monday Bankroll: $1,221
Monday’s Loss: $200
Final Bankroll $1,021
SURELOCK, perhaps caught looking ahead to the surf meeting the turf starting Wednesday, lost $80 when Final Forecast finished third in the ninth race.
Computer’s Mon. Bankroll: $1,744.50
Monday’s Loss: $80
Final Bankroll: $1,644.50
