THOUSAND OAKS : Anti-Noise Measures to Get Further Study
The Thousand Oaks City Council, concerned that sound walls would be unsightly and ineffective, has authorized a study of alternative sound-abatement measures for the Moorpark Freeway.
Among other measures that will be considered are building walls at residential property lines and installing double-glazed windows and soundproofing insulation in homes, Public Works Director John Clement said.
The city has agreed to pay $750,000 to reduce noise along three miles of the freeway from Hillcrest Drive to Pederson Road.
“If we installed walls, they would be as high as 14 feet,” Clement said. “Some people object to that. In addition, the rolling country in that area would reduce the walls’ sound-reduction efficiency.”
By a 5-0 vote, the council Tuesday approved Councilman Robert E. Lewis’ proposal that a private consultant study alternative measures at a cost of $7,000. The consultant’s report will be due in mid-October.
