A 31-year-old man was stabbed to death by his brother-in-law after the two argued early Sunday morning, police said.

The body of Clifton Joseph Chester was found in the parking lot of an apartment building in the 13700 block of Hubbard Street in Sylmar.

“He had sustained stab wounds to the upper torso,” Los Angeles Police Officer Mark Archuleta said.

Chester was stabbed at 12:30 a.m. and died at the scene, authorities said.

Witnesses told police that Chester and his brother-in-law, David Hayes Selma, 35, had been drinking earlier, and an argument ensued. Selma pulled out an unknown weapon and stabbed Chester, police said.

Police were searching for Selma, who fled in a yellow, 1977 Buick Regal.
