THE SIDELINES : Prpic Wins in San Remo Tennis

SAN REMO, Italy —
Third-seeded Goran Prpic of Yugoslavia defeated Italian qualifier Federico Mordegan, 7-5, 6-2, today in the first round of the San Remo Open tennis tournament.
Prpic was the top seed in action on the first day of the clay court event. He was joined in the second round by No. 7 Jordi Arrese of Spain, a 6-4, 6-2 winner over Cedric Pioline of France.
Top-seeded Guillermo Perez-Roldan of Argentina and No. 2 Juan Aguilera of Spain play their first-round matches Tuesday.
