THE SIDELINES : Jordan Honored by Boys Town
Michael Jordan of the Chicago Bulls has been named the recipient of Boys Town’s Father Flanagan Award for Service to Youth.
The award will be presented to Jordan during his visit to Boys Town on Friday.
Jordan is the youngest recipient of the award since its inception in the 1970s. Other honorees include Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Nancy Reagan, Julius Erving, Bob Hope, Danny Thomas and heart surgeon Dr. Denton Cooley.
Boys Town’s executive director, Father Val J. Peter, said Jordan “has taken his God-given talents and used them wisely to serve as a positive force to turn young people away from the drug and alcohol problem that plagues our society.”
Jordan travels the country during the off-season, letting young people know what they can achieve with hard work, and without drugs and alcohol.
