Final Freeway Lane Shut by Fire Is Reopened

Caltrans reopened the final lane of the Hollywood Freeway section between the four-level interchange and Mission Road in downtown Los Angeles at noon Monday, restoring all lanes of the vital link affected by the July 13 fire in a Metro Rail tunnel.

Some freeway lanes were reopened to motorists two days after the disastrous blaze, but Caltrans and the California Highway Patrol kept the southbound No. 4 lane closed and banned southbound truck traffic while work continued to shore up the tunnel.

Monday’s opening also included the southbound Alameda Street on-ramp. The Vignes Street on-ramp to the southbound 101 remains closed, Caltrans officials said.
