Kansas City’s George Brett will be out of action for a few days after being hurt in a collision at first base Monday night, Royals trainer Mickey Cobb said.

Brett stayed in the game, a 7-6 victory over the Indians, after the ninth-inning collision with Cleveland’s Mitch Webster. Brett, covering the bag to take a quick flip from pitcher Jeff Montgomery, was knocked flat as he went into the base line going after the ball. Webster was out on the play.

Brett, on a hot streak at the plate lately, has a sprain and bruise near his right collarbone, but X-rays were negative. He was hitless in five trips against the Indians, leaving his batting average at an even .300.

“My collarbone is sore, and it kind of hurts to breathe,” he said.
