Sonilla Scores Upset Victory

Sonilla, an 8-1 shot, used a strong finish to win Thursday’s $55,000 feature race at Del Mar by a half-length over Paper Princess before a crowd of 13,094.

Sonilla, ridden by Eddie Delahoussaye and carrying 116 pounds, covered one mile on Del Mar’s turf course in 1:36 3-5 and paid $18, $5.60 and $2.80.

Paper Princess, the 19-10 second favorite ridden by Laffit Pincay finished a half-length ahead of favored Run To Jenny.

Paper Princess and Run To Jenny were battling for the lead when Sonilla charged past both of them.
