Murderer Seized After 3 Years as Fugitive

Convicted murderer Kenneth (Kendog) Evans, a South- Central street gang member who escaped from Los Angeles County Central Jail more than three years ago, was returned this week from Atlanta, where he was arrested for breaking into a car.

The 26-year-old fugitive escaped on Feb. 5, 1987, by switching identification wrist bands with a fellow prisoner who was ready for release. When the man’s name was called, Evans stepped forward and walked out of jail.

At the time, Evans was awaiting sentencing for the 1985 slaying of a gang rival shot in a drive-by attack. Evans was brought back to Los Angeles on Thursday by members of the sheriff’s fugitive detail and placed in a jail section reserved for high-security risks.
