SANTA BARBARA —
The Los Angeles Heat took a major step toward securing a playoff berth in the American Professional Soccer League West with a 2-0 Southern Division victory against Real Santa Barbara Saturday afternoon at Santa Barbara City College.
The Heat (9-8) got goals from defender Dany Pena and Brad Smith in the final three minutes of regulation to win. Only three teams from the division advance to the playoffs. L.A. started the day in fourth place.
L.A. plays host to the San Diego Nomads this afternoon at 4 p.m. at West Torrance High.
