Too Late for Cambodians?: Los Angeles Festival may cancel scheduled performances by the Cambodian Classical Dance Troupe if the State Department does not grant visas for the 32 dancers by Friday, according to Judith Luther, festival executive director. “They told us (last week) that they would let us know within 20 days, but we’re literally running out of time,” Luther said, noting that the festival is nearing its deadline to purchase plane tickets and rent housing for the company. The visas have been under consideration by the State Department since mid-June. The performances, which are being billed as “the first artistic exchange between the two countries since the Vietnam War,” are scheduled Sept. 13-16 at the L.A. State and County Arboretum.
