A 25-year-old man was in extremely critical condition Sunday after he was pulled from a car that drifted off the Ventura Freeway, crashed through a fence and burst into flames, authorities said.

An Bui suffered second- and third-degree burns over much of his lower body in the 5:15 a.m. crash in a North Hollywood neighborhood, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells said.

Bui’s passengers--two women and a child--were treated for minor injuries at AMI Medical Center of North Hollywood. Bui was being treated at County-USC Medical Center.

Officials said the car drifted from the eastbound lanes of the Ventura Freeway, smashed through a chain-link fence separating the roadway from Sarah Street and stopped in front of 4554 Kraft Ave., where it burst into flames.

Wells said the fire was quickly extinguished, but it took firefighters half an hour to pull Bui from the wreckage.
