200 Acres Burn in Fire Caused by Lightning
A lightning-caused fire burned 200 acres in the Warm Springs area of Angeles National Forest 10 miles north of Castaic Lake, and was still out of control Tuesday night, the U. S. Forest Service reported.
Forest Service spokesman Robert Brady said a lightning storm touched off the fire shortly before 5 p.m. More than 90 firefighters from the Forest Service and the Los Angeles County Fire Department battled the blaze and another 150 were expected to be called in.
“There has not been a major fire in that area since 1924,” Brady said. “We’re looking at 65-year-old brush and growth. There’s a lot of litter and deadwood.”
No injuries were reported and no structures were endangered, he said.
Officials could not estimate when the fire would be contained.
About five other lightning-caused fires erupted throughout the forest but were quickly extinguished, Brady said.
