‘Cute’ but Dangerous

Share

The picture in the Valley section of The Times of two boys riding a bike across the Cal State Northridge campus was certainly “cute.” Unfortunately, it tells young people that if they ride unsafely, they might get their picture in the newspaper.

This is the kind of riding practice that sometimes results in other stories in your paper, about youngsters (and adults) being killed or severely injured in bike riding accidents.

Children need constant understandable reminders about how and why to ride safely, such as: A bicycle is built to be ridden by one person only, unless it has a proper infant seat or it is a tandem bike with two seats.

Surely, there are plenty of “cute” pictures of children riding safely that your photographers can get on any weekend at Balboa Park.
