Soviet Film Wins in a Waltz: The Soviet film “Waltz of Chance” was awarded the Golden Leopard Award at the Locarno Film Festival over the weekend in Switzerland. The British film “The Reflecting Skin,” and the American film “Metropolitan,” directed by neophyte Whit Stillman, shared the Silver Leopard for second prize. “Waltz of Chance” was directed by Svetlana Proskourina and featured unconventional scenes from the everyday life of a woman who lost faith in the future. British director Philip Ridley, 30, was cited for “The Reflecting Skin,” which depicted the nightmares of a child. Stillman’s film about preppy Angst opened in Los Angeles on Friday.
