Sport Fishing Boat Runs Aground With 38 Aboard
A 70-foot sport fishing boat ran aground on a sandy Santa Catalina Island beach early Monday, forcing the 38 people aboard the San Pedro-based vessel to go ashore at Goat Harbor.
The cause of the grounding at 3:26 a.m. was not known, though the craft was on automatic pilot, said Los Angeles County Lifeguard Capt. Bob Buchanan.
The Grande was pulled off the beach about two hours later by a lifeguard rescue boat and another vessel. No one was injured and there was little damage to the boat. Passengers were ferried back to the mainland by a water taxi.
The Grande had put out from San Pedro late Sunday.
