Yugoslavia’s NBA connection accounted for 80 points in a 105-86 victory over Brazil in the teams’ opening game of the quarterfinal round of the World Basketball Championships at Buenos Aires.
Yugoslavia led, 62-48, when Drazen Petrovic of the Portland Trail Blazers made four three-pointers in a 12-3 run. Petrovic scored 27 points, Toni Kukoc, a draft choice of the Chicago Bulls, had 20 points; Zarko Paspalj, who played for the San Antonio Spurs, had 19 points, and Vlade Divac of the Lakers added 14 points and eight rebounds.
Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union, which beat Greece, 75-57, in an earlier game, will play today.
