HUNTINGTON BEACH : Nightclub’s Opening Delayed for 4 Days

Share

Citing “unforeseen delays in construction,” officials of Peppers Golden Bear said Tuesday that they have pushed back the club’s opening night from next Tuesday to Aug. 25.

The delays have forced cancellation of what were have to been the first three concerts at the 500-seat-capacity club and restaurant, which will be in the Pierside Pavilion across from the Huntington Beach Pier. Jazz guitarists Stanley Jordan and Al Dimeola were to have played Tuesday and Aug. 22, respectively, and rock musician Steve Wynn had been booked for Aug. 23. Bella Lagmay, a spokeswoman for Peppers, said that those performers may be rescheduled.

Peppers is now scheduled to open with a private party for music industry guests Aug. 25, Lagmay said, followed by its first public concert, an Aug. 26 performance by ‘60s rock veterans Eric Burdon and Robbie Krieger.

Peppers is billing itself as heir to the Golden Bear nightspot, which was on Pacific Coast Highway just south of Main Street. The Pierside Pavilion is on the south corner of Main at Pacific Coast Highway. The old Golden Bear was Orange County’s leading club for pop concerts until it was torn down in 1986 to make way for downtown redevelopment.
