Candidates Must File by Today in O.C. Races

Share

Residents interested in running for public office have until 5 p.m. today to file candidacy papers for 27 city council, school board and special district races on the local November ballots.

Of the 78 Orange County governing bodies that will fill vacancies during the Nov. 6 general election, 27 have seats in which an incumbent failed to file for reelection last Friday. In such cases, state law grants a five-day extension for non-incumbents to file candidacy papers. Incumbents are prohibited from changing their minds and filing during the extension.

Governing boards in Orange County with filing extensions are:

City councils: Brea, Buena Park, Cypress, Fountain Valley, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach, Mission Viejo, Orange, San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, Stanton and Villa Park.

Candidacy papers are due by 5 p.m. at the appropriate city clerks’ offices for city council races and at the Orange County Registration and Elections office in Santa Ana for all others.
