Top-seeded Ivan Lendl, rusty from a post-Wimbledon layoff, was upset by unseeded Malivai Washington in New Haven, Conn., in the second round of the Volvo International tennis tournament.
Washington is ranked No. 103 in the world. He took only 73 minutes to beat second-ranked Lendl, 6-2, 6-3.
Washington had not previously beaten a player ranked in the top 25 and lost in the first round of his past three tournaments.
