Venice : Water Program Honored
“Drought Busters” from the Department of Water and Power joined “Drip Busters” from Lincoln Place Apartments in Venice for a conservation celebration.
The owners of the apartments, which ranked among the DWP’s top 250 water users, have instituted a program to save water by fixing every dripping faucet, leaky pipe and running toilet in the 795-unit complex.
“Drip Busters” features a hot line for residents to call to have leaks repaired, to have general plumbing inspections of their units or to report leaking sprinkler heads on the 40-acre grounds.
Last Saturday, the complex owner, TransAction Cos., was given a special commendation from the DWP. “TransAction Cos. demonstrates an excellent example of what a private group can do with creativity and the desire to save water for Los Angeles,” James M. Derry, DWP customer services’ director, said in a written statement.
The block party featured presentations on water conservation and recycling.
According to Lincoln Place spokesman Tony Kovaleski, the program, along with other conservation measures, has already shown a 12% drop in water consumption in a month’s time. Because of the drought, DWP customers have been asked to cut water consumption by 10% or face mandatory conservation.
