Two men used the same technique during separate bank robbery attempts in San Diego Thursday--but with very different results.

One man gave a threatening note to a teller at a Home Federal Bank about 10:30 a.m. Thursday, and the teller cooperated by handing over $1,300, said police spokesman Bill Robinson.

About an hour later, a man who tried to use a threatening note to get money from a Union Bank teller didn’t fare as well.

“The teller refused to give him any money, and he walked out of the bank empty-handed,” Robinson said.

Both bandits escaped on foot, Robinson said.

The man who robbed the Home Federal Bank, in the 4000 block of Adams Avenue, was described as white and in his early 30s, wearing a pink neon baseball cap, a Budweiser shirt and a pair of faded jeans, Robinson said. He had blue eyes, brown hair, a thin mustache and glasses, Robinson said.

Police had only a vague description of the would-be robber at Union Bank, in the 1600 block of Euclid Avenue.
