Lanes Closed After Freeway Chemical Spill
A chemical spill forced officials to close three lanes of the northbound Golden State Freeway near Gorman for more than four hours early Friday, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Authorities said a truck rear-ended another truck carrying a shipment of antifreeze and other chemicals. The 3 a.m. accident occurred about half a mile south of California 138.
Los Angeles County firefighters called for a hazardous materials unit after learning that the rear-ended truck carried a variety of potentially dangerous chemicals. Firefighters subsequently determined that only antifreeze leaked from the truck and the emergency was downgraded. California Department of Transportation workers used sand to soak up the liquid.
The drivers were not injured and damage to the trucks was minor.
All freeway lanes were reopened shortly after 7:30 a.m., the CHP said.
