Divers recovered the bodies today of the last two victims of an in-flight collision between two small airplanes over the breakwater at Long Beach Harbor, officials said.
The two male victims, whose identities were not immediately known, were found by divers about 9:40 a.m. inside their Cessna 172, said Bill Kushmaul, a dispatcher for Long Beach lifeguards.
The plane was found in 60 feet of water, about 100 yards southwest of the breakwater and a quarter-mile west of the Long Beach Harbor entrance, Kushmaul said.
Two other bodies in the other plane were recovered Sunday evening, a few hours after the collision was reported at 3:30 p.m.
A boater who witnessed the crash said he saw one of the planes apparently attempting aerial acrobatics minutes before the crash, which sheared wings off both planes.
